Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Where should the portable toilets be placed?

Portable toilets should be set up on a firm and level ground surface. They can also be placed strategically for accessibility, convenience, as well as safety and security. For example, you can place portaloos near high-traffic areas or locations where people are likely to need them, such as near food and drink stalls, stages, work sites, etc. You should also consider the positioning of portable toilets, as you don’t want to place them too close to high-traffic areas or too far away for safety and accessibility reasons.

  • Are there lights in a portable toilet?

Some portaloos can come with built-in lighting, especially those designed for use at events or sites that require nighttime access. However, not all portable toilets come with lighting features.

  • How often do the tanks need to be emptied?

This will usually depend on the duration of the event, your audience size and the capacity of the tank – this typically ranges from 225 to 390 litres. For short term events with a lot of users, we usually recommend having the tanks emptied and the units cleaned daily or every other day for sanitary reasons and to prevent overflows. You can also get in touch with us for more advice on servicing frequency based on your specific needs and requirements.

  • What happens to the waste?

Portable toilets are designed to capture waste in a storage tank upon flushing, where it is treated with chemicals to break down the waste and reduce odours. Standard portaloos are usually equipped with flow indicators, so you can easily monitor when the tank is approaching full capacity and needs to be emptied. Once the portaloo is at full capacity, a large vacuum is used to transfer all toilet waste to a holding tank, which is then taken to a specialised cleaning facility for safe disposal.
